I have been recently invited to attend the official opening of Terracotta Boutique, located at Al Tilal Complex, but due to prior commitments, I couldn't make it to the event. So last night my friend and I decided to pass by especially after seeing a sneak peak of the boutique by fellow blogger q8arteriors and November's blog.

We were immediately drawn to the boutique's lovely window display, which you can have a look at, small part of it though, on my Instagram account (follow me @confashions). The place felt very cozy with a beautiful scent of fresh soaps and scented candles, even though I haven't seen any candles around. And the interior had a mix of Parisian chic with a modern touch. A hand-painted clutch?1? So this is how to literally carry a piece of art in your hand. The stingray hand-painted clutch by Celestina is colored with bright shades and abstract design. I’m hardly ever the one to lose her mind over almost identical two pieces of the same collection but when I saw theses stunning cocktail dresses from Peter Pilotto's cruise 2012 collection at AlOthman, I had the hardest time to decide on which one to go for. The sharply tailored cocktail dresses with defined waist are covered in blurry abstract prints of red and blue. Hung next to each other, they reminded me of the power of fire and water, so strong and captivating. What I loved about these dresses too, is the way the dress hugs you at the waist and then goes to a full volume effect from the waist down in a structured manner. The photos really do not do them justice. Price tag? For the red dress KD 869, the blue dress is priced at KD 799.

One of my readers, RS, e-mailed me to ask about where to find some exquisite jewelry boxes or hangers and she specifically wanted something to hold big and chunky statement necklaces. So the other day while browsing Pottery Barn in the Avenues, I saw these gorgeous glass cloches, or bell jars, which can be used to store jewelry in and at the same time they'd make a nice display of your statement or vintage pieces. I love the fact that the necklace hanger is covered with glass to protect my precious items from gathering dust. And I also loved how the glass cloches come in different levels and each clouch is used for a specific type of jewels as you can see from the photos below. Look what we have here! At first glance one would probably think that this is none other than the highly-coveted two-tone Céline clutch, but surprise surprise.. it's not! I actually spotted it at Massimo Dutti in the Avenues and surprisingly the clutch's leather was of high level of quality, or at least that's what it felt to me. Price tag? Around KD 24. And that's not all, as I browsed the store I noticed that Massimo Dutti even emulated Céline Cabas, as shown in the below photos. Price tag? KD 44.

The Bravery of Being Out of Range

Last week I visited Sultan Gallery's latest exhibition titled The Bravery of Being Out of Range II organized in collaboration with Athr Gallery, one of the first contemporary art galleries in Saudi Arabia dedicated for the Saudi and Arab artists. The exhibition builds on the success of its first show that was held at Athr in May 2011, and it highlights globalization and how it can be equally limiting and liberating. One of the pieces that caught my attention and which I fond to be funny were these bowling pins covered with textile scarves by artist Yara El Shirbini. If you're interested to visit the exhibition, it's on till 2nd February 2012.

Dear Confashion: Looking for a Wedding Dress

One of my fab readers has sent me an e-mail asking for help to find wedding gown for her sister-in-law. She mentioned that they were hoping I'd post something about bridal gowns stating that "My sister-in-law's personal preference is a ball gown with a bow detail at the back and preferably having a low back. Please help us find a suitable gown".

So I turned to my first style-opedia Style.com and I did some extensive search on wedding gowns that graced the runways during New York's Bridal Fashion Week and Paris's Haute Couture week. It is so overwhelming to skim through the vast selection of wedding gowns! And here's an advice to Brides-to-be, remember to keep an open mind and to experiment with the idea of altering a dress to fit your liking. Most designers, if not all, can make their colored evening gowns into the most beautiful white wedding dress. My ultimate favorite look has to be Givenchy Couture, featured in the the first photo. Of course you'll be having a thicker layer on to the lower half of the dress. And look at the back detail of another Givenchy creation. Gorgeous!

Sigh! That Azzedine Alaïa black dress in white? Or how about this extravagant Giambattista Valli dress with a simple very short veil? For a very classic and simple gown that can we re-worn for other occasions, try Victoria Beckham (featured on the right below), maybe you'd like to add some lace and embroidery details to the neckline if this dress feels too simple. And finally, Alexander McQueen's short/long young and fresh design for someone who's edgy and not afraid to take some fashion risks.

Orange heels, flats, and sandals dominated the new collection. Note to self: find me a pair of killer orange shoes. And by the way, the pumps featured in the above picture are actually orangeish. But I guess it's the light effect that made it look more on the red/pink side.

Louboutin Heels for Sale

I have received an e-mail from a reader who wishes to sell a pair of barely-used nude Christian Louboutin Bianca heels size 37.5 from the Classique collection. She ordered them online and got a size too big. They've only been worn once. The original price was $845 (around KD236) and she still has the original shoe box, dust bag, and heel taps.

Anselm Reyle for Dior Has Arrived

This week's posts seem to be more bags-focused. And in today's guest of honor is Dior. I was coincidentally passing by the boutique in Salhiya Complex and noticed some fluo colors on the shelves so I walked in only to find the much-hyped Dior collaboration with Berlin-based pop artist Anselm Reyle was actually available in store. The capsule collection composed of bags, wallets, scarves, and iPad covers using the brightest shades of fluorescent green, yellow and pink. I like how the artist put the fun back into classic lady Dior bag by using fluo threads. They surly adding a nice pop of color to a summery look.

Mellow Yellow

Ahh... yellow. My ultimate favorite color, there's something about it that just makes me feel happy. A friend once told me that there was a popular song back in the 60's called Mellow Yellow and that it was very popular among the hippies because they widely believed that it was possible to get high by smoking scrapings from the inside of banana peels (!!). Of course that was a hoax, the color itself is what probably made them... erm.. "happy"! Anyhow, this bright yellow quilted Chanel bag in calf skin was such a happy sight, especially after my last visit/disappointment to the boutique. Roomy enough to fit all my junk and I think the thick straps would make it easier (less painful) to carry.

The brand's boutique in Salhiya Complex also received another yellow Chanel but in the classic large shape and its shade was a bit paler. And if you're a fan of their slippers and flats, they have received several styles from the cruise collection.

Harrods Shumaq

I never thought I'd see the day when Shumaqs, a headwear typically worn by men in Arab states of the Arab Gulf, are being sold at Harrods in London for £339 (around KD 146). And the price tag also describes it as made using 100% cashmere. Very interesting!

Lulwa Al-Amin... A New Designer on the Fashion Scene

I've been meaning to write this post ever since I first saw Lulwa Al Amin's debut collection almost 5 months ago and fell in love with a structured dress (shown in the last photo), the design looked so fresh! Like it was about to be featured in some fashion editorial for Lula magazine or Elle magazine. So when i got the chance to view Lulwa's 2nd collection for S/S 2012, it hit me! I never got around writing about this great regional talent. So this way overdue post is in recognition of the amazing designs, which have been created by Bahraini designer Lulwa Al Amin.

Born and raised in Bahrain, Lulwa Al Amin moved to London in 2004 to complete her college studies. She graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2009 with a BA Degree in Textile Design. Before starting her own label, Lulwa had already gained work experience from leading names in the fashion Industry, such as Matthew Williamson and Browns. In addition to a number of freelance projects.

The theme of Lulwa Al Amin's S/S 2012 has a whimsical and ethereal tone. Think girly silhouettes, cute ruffles, whimsical prints, and soft pastel colors. Her collection will soon be available online on www.notjustalabel.com. Also, both Sauce boutique and D'NA are carrying her collection as of this week. Lulwa is also set to exhibit her brand at Paris Fashion Week in March for next season.

Furniture is the Servant of Fantasy

Over the weekend I passed by CAP's warehouse in Shuwaikh to check out the debut design collection by Al-Hamad Design titled: Furniture is the Servant of Fantasy.

I was pleased to find Nanu Al-Hamad, the director of design at Al-Hamad Design and the creative force behind the following mind blowing designs, at the warehouse as I wanted to pick his brain and ask him about his inspiration behind these beautiful designs. Raised in Southern California, the Kuwaiti designer took me through the exhibition explaining how he focused on creating luxury fantasy-like objects that inspire and surprise. The furniture utilizes progressive materials and technologies in order to improve and expand the relationship between objects and their users. The bulb box, featured in the first photo, was my #1 favorite item of the exhibition. If one bulb burns out, just simply replace it with any of the ones available inside the box. Super cool!

The exhibition is on until Wednesday 18th January 2012, from 11am - 1pm and from 5pm-8pm.

The Chandelier Throne was my second favorite piece of the exhibition. If you plan yo go, which I strongly recommend that you you should, you have to try sitting on it. AT first I was hesitant to sit, as I didn't want to cause any damages, but it felt so cool and very fairylike! I'd love to see this piece on a terrace overlooking a huge garden. The chair is covered with leather from Moore & Giles.

This piece is called Gibbous it is basically a garden chair and an ottoman. It also glows in the dark.

Doesn't this table look like it was made from volcanic lava? Amazing!

This floor lamp is called Embarakiya and it's basically a fiber glass mannequin with touch sensor lighting and built-in speakers. It was funny listening to music coming out of the mannequin's chest!

All the pieces have the designer's stamp hidden at the back....

Check out how this work desk is smoothly transformed into a meeting table simply by moving the attached rotating wings.

This piece is called the Little Oyster which can be used as either a chair or a side table when folded. It also has secret compartment for storage. Unbelievably cool!

Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony at N Boutique

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this fun and flirty broderie anglaise eyelet full dress by Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony Resort 2012 collection gracing the window display of N Boutique, located in Burj Jassim. This dress was the last look to go down the runway during Chloe Sevigny's first official runway show and one of my most loved piece from the collection. I also found a top version of the dress with cute pleated detail, I think it would look cute paired with capri pants and colorful pair of heels. The boutique also had other items of the Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony collection on display like some printed skirts and a cool varsity denim jacket.

Styling with Goji Boutique

I've been approached by Goji Boutique, Kuwait-based multi-brand online shop, to participate in a feature for Bazaar Magazine where I got to style a look using their selection of clothes and accessories. The focus, however, was to pick any of their white tops and style it to reflect my own personal taste, and to highlight how versatile the white top can be dressed up or down. Some of Kuwait's finest bloggers also participated in this feature including: Ansam518, Khaleejesque, Me Blogging, Pomegranate and Patchouli, and TidbitDuJour (looks featured below).

My look is the one featured in the photo above and the one right below. I choose to make a fun and colorful summery accessories-overloaded look, so I picked from Goji Boutique a denim pencil skirt (KD 22), white top (KD 39.500), belt (KD 25), susu bag (KD 47), and some of Goji's accessories. And I added a couple of my own accessories like the heart shaped necklace which I got from Dover Street Market, skull bracelet from Boutique 4, and a set of wooden bracelets from Oasis... et voilà!! Well Helloooo Jimmy Choo!!? It's about time!! I used to miss that edginess which I always found in Jimmy Choo shoes every season, and now I think they've seriously got their groove back! Just look at these stunning rainbow colored wedge heels! Now that's some serious color injection into any wardrobe. And how about the sorbet-colored patent leather wedge heels shown below?! I passed by Al Othman recently, and a lot of the items featured in their Resort lookbook were already in store: Theyskens Theory, Alexander Wang, Oscar de la Renta, Michael Angle, 10 Crosby by Derek Lam, and more. Two brands that I had be hooked were naturally Preen and Erdem. There is something about these young designers, they brings together the finest, brightest, and most unique collections. Let's start with Erdem, I look forward to his trench coats. Every season he seems to present unexpected twists on basic outerwear. A few seasons back the trench coat was entirely covered with white lace, back in 2008 he had designed a beautiful trench coat with huge flower-like detail, which I have featured here. And now he has like a tweed overlay on the upper half of the coat... simply beautiful. Check out the details...

In case you haven't noticed, I've always been just a tab bit obsessed with Al Othman, so when Mr. Mailman knocked on the door to deliver my copy of their brand new resort lookbook titled Snapshots by MUSE, I kind of pounced like a cat hunting for her prey for their to-die-for chic sneak peek. It's the first time that Al Othamn issues a lookbook for Resort. The focus before was merely on the two major seasons: Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter. So it's nice to see the baby season (aka resot) getting some attention too. Snapshots by MUSE will give you an insight on what will we have up for grabs. Some of the featured clothes may not be in store just yet (a lot already on display though!), but I'm pretty sure they'll easily find their way to my shopping list. Ahhhh... the sight of brightly colored bags and accessories in these sometimes-cold-sometimes-warm/humid days simply makes me happy. This means, new season's collections have finally started to roll in! Event: Visiting Kuwait's International Islamic Art Convention

The other day my lovely friend urged me to visit Kuwait's 5th International Islamic Art Convention. She got to know about it through her cousin who's actually one of the organizers of the event. And I'm glad I did. I was completely mesmerized by the works of some of the participants. The event showcases islamic art using various techniques and from different parts of the world. And that's not all, they actually have workshops for kids and adults to experience the art of weaving and calligraphy, and they're all for free! Scroll down to see some of my favorite participants...

The event is currently being held at the Grand Mosque in Kuwait City and is open from 9AM to 12PM and from 5PM to 9PM until 7th January.

A Chinese artist who uses Arabic calligraphy to paint. In the first featured photo, the artist wrote "Kuwait" in a Chinese way... So beautiful.

One of the works that was featured in this event which I found to be utterly spectacular is the origami Tessellation by Italian artist Andrea Russo, who happens to be a lawyer too. He went on a trip to Spain 10 years ago and was facinated by the architechture of Alhambra Palace, which was built in the 13th century, and the beauty of its geomatric islamic patterns. And that's when he started to study islamic art and reproduce islamic geomatric patterns using origami techniques (paper-folding). I can just imagine using 4 or 5 of his framed work as a partition in a living room. And by the way, his displayed work is actually on sale in case you're interested to buy. According to the artist, it takes him 4-5 days to complete one piece.

I was pleasantly surprised to see a small selection of Burberry Prorsum's Spring/Summer 2012 African inspired collection available at the brand’s store at 360 Mall the other day. We don’t usually get the S/S collections in K-town that early, and mostly what I’ve seen so far are the cruise collections only. The first thing that caught my attention were the platform sandals with playfully bright ankle beads (shown in the photo below), I tried them on and I instantly wished I was vacationing somewhere exotic having dinner at some fancy restaurant. My lovely friend F, who kindly emailed me photos of Le Printemps window display, was sweet enough to send me a bunch of other window displays in Paris including the ones featured below. Knowing how obsessed I am with beautifully decorated window displays, my super sweet friend F, who happens to be in Paris to celebrate New Year's eve.. le sigh!, has sent me these beautiful photos of Karl Lagerfeld's Christmas window display for Chanel at Le Printemps in Paris.

The eleven storefront windows paid homage to the designer and iconic moments in Chanel's history. They had 60 animated puppets on display like miniature Lagerfelds as a photographer, dancing ballerinas, and adorable PAN AM-like flight attendants dressed in elegant and classic designs from previous collections. I wonder how much effort and cost it would take to pull off such an amazing display!

Styling Kenzo

If you've been following me on twitter, tumblr, or instagr.am, you would know that I was invited by KENZO team to dress up nine of their mannequins, six on the window display and three in-store, at their Avenues Phase II boutique. It was quite challenging because I had to dress up eight out of the nine mannequins using their new cruise/resort collection. And I'm sure most shopaholics are aware that resort or cruise lines are to some extent limited. So I tired to create a different look on each of the mannequins. The easiest mannequin I have styled was the one which I mixed cruise with statement pieces from the brand's défilé line A/W 2012, that fur jacket! Sigh! Anyhow, it was definitely a fun experience and a loved every minute of it, just as much as I loved styling DKNY a few months back. Scroll down for some bits and pieces about this fun task...

I loved the leather belts at KENZO, they were very soft and make a great statement piece if you want to accentuate your waist line.

Check out the mannequin on the right striking a "talk-to-the-hand" pose. I loved that cobalt blue blazer with its printed silk lining.

Now THIS is the statement belt that I got, it's in the season's "it" color bright mint green. Loved it!

Found a great gift for someone who likes Louis Vuitton's leather and appreciates Art. I've never heard of this limited edition line called Illustré before. The whimsical illustration is used to decorate LV's monogram and Damier leather wallets, organizers, and key chains and is inspired by the nostalgic history of LV's long tradition with travel. According to the saleslady, they have received this line almost a month ago and in addition to the hot air balloon illustration featured here, they had a character illustration from 1909, which sold out immediately. Kuwaiti designer and Stylist Fahad Al-Marzouq has shared with me a sneak peak of his fashion editorial for a new magazine called B Journal. The editorial was completely directed and styled by Al-Marzouq. "The inspiration behind the photoshoot was dressing up how you feel no matter where you are. Luxury, a state of being wherever." expressed Al-Marzouq. I liked the rawness of the theme and how the background and surroundings looked very shabby against the opulence of the fashion items used. The clothes used in the photoshoot were from Al Othman Boutique, 4 Boutique, and Khaleda Rajab Couture. As for the bags, Al-Marzouq used a selection of his own brand HBYF, more on soon. Hair and makeup of the female model were done by the Boudoir Salon, and Spaloon styled the male model's hair.

Pretty and Practical Pieces by Farah

Anyone who ever decorated a small space knows how crucial it is to buy pieces that are not only pretty but also practical and space saving. Kuwaiti designer Farah Al Humaidhi did exactly that and more. When I visited her recent exhibition tiled Pieces by Farah, she effortlessly showed me how to transform a modern one seater into two ottomans (or can be an ottoman and a table?). And then she showed me a set of lego-style nesting tables which I swear at first glance looked like a normal one high table (not featured here). That's genius!

Looking at her pieces up close, I realized that this is not just another copy/paste exhibition. Farah has smartly played with new techniques and different shapes resulting in her own very distinct style. The way she designed the tables, lace-like vases, and metal mesh and lace covered lamps is simply amazing, and most importantly practical, pieces of art that people would want to buy and decorate their homes with.

You can customize can any of the pieces of Farah's collection, colors and wood type, to your taste. Her work is currently being exhibited at AL Tilal Complex (November Head Office) today only. And in two weeks time, you will also be able to order online through her website.

Every season I look forward to designer houses unveiling their new season ad campaigns. And for this season I loved the simplicity and the spontaneity of Dolce & Gabbana's Menswear Summer 2012 campaign. The designer duo celebrated Italian cinema, Italian spirit, and passion to tradition and family. The photos just look like so real! Like taken from an old album, but captured in a way to show a bit of modernity.

The photos were shot by Mariano Vivanco are intentionally candid and reminiscent of scenes from an Italian-style comedy, where actors portray life in a Southern Italian village.

Beirut-based gallery Orient 499, which I have previously featured here on my blog, is loved by people from our region for it's beautiful and unique selection of oriental clothes and home accessories with a modern twist. Yesterday, I have been informed by Orient 499's representative that the gallery has just been extended with around 250sq/m of new space. They have also doubled the space dedicated to their Kaftans.

Other new additions? the hamman products with lots of new collections of hand woven towels and peshtemal, a children's corner with a new collection of girls mini kaftans as well as sherwel for little boys, a room dedicated for men, a dining room with products to master l'art de la table, a bedroom with a beautifull collection of bed linen, and a living room with new designs of their iconic oriental sofas and lights,

Visiting Boutique 4's New Location

Before I go about its new (and temporary) location, I just wanted to take a minute or two to say that I love Boutique 4. Most of the items they stock are just so avant-garde and rarely can be found anywhere else online or off. I know I said it before but I'll say it again, it is truly one of the few fashion establishments in Kuwait where I like to poke around in even if I'm not in the mood to buy (aka broke).

So I have finally visited Boutique 4's new location (the original one is under renovation), which is huge with lots of space to walk about. As always, their selection never ceases to amaze me. And in case you didn't know, they are currently offering 30% off selected brands from their Fall 2011 collections for men and women. Last min shopping anyone?
