Shoes Around The Corner

TheCorner.com is my latest online obsession simply because of they stock Pierre Hardy shoes (heart!). The site also has a ymmy selection of cutting-edge fashion and accessories.  My wish list would by (L-R) Pierre Hardy Platform sandals, I'm Isola Marras wedge heels, Pierre Hardy wedge sandals (luuuve), Antonio Marras flat golden sandals, and Ferragamo's Creations rainbow colored wedge (unpractical but fun!).

And the KAGE Winner is...

And the winner of Confashions and KAGE's giveaway is: Sausan Al Kadi in Saudi Arabia. Susan styled the limited edition KAGE t-shirt using the above pieces like the on-trend long sheer skirt, a mix of statement accessories, and with a little bit of bad girl/punk fitted leather jacket.  Congratulations to Susan and better luck to all next time. Another new giveaway is coming your way soon!

Video: Kuwait Towers Lit Up Our Sky

This post may come as old news to my Kuwait and GCC readers. However, I felt it would be nice to share it with the rest of my readers who come from over 130 countries around the world. The past couple of days, Kuwait was celebrating its 50th National Day and 20th Liberation day. And as part of the celebration, a mega fireworks, lights, and laser show took place at Kuwait Towers, one of Kuwait's main tourist attractions and something that I have been always proud of (hence my header) and always wished that it was managed and utilized differently, like open up a Gordon Ramsay restaurant with a 360 degrees view of the city.  Anyhow, the show was so spectacular, I don't think I'll ever forget how the towers lit up the sky that night.

I have found this nice video clip on YouTube by cajieb which is basically a compilation of 603 unedited pictures that cajieb took within a duration of around 40 minutes during the fireworks display at Kuwait Towers.

It is worth mentioning that the towers were designed by a Swedish company and executed by a Yugoslav company. They were built in 1975 and inaugurated in 1979.  The plates that cover the balls are fifty five thousand in number. They are made of Chinese steel painted in eight different colors.

Pink Cadillac

One of the events organized by 360 Mall is the Royal Cars exhibition. I'm not into cars that much but I do know that I have a thing for pink Cadillac. So while walking around the mall I spotted 1958 pink Cadillac fleetwood owned by Princess Sarah of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. I would sooo love to have this car featured in a fashion editorial for a magazine! And right next to it was King Farouk I of Egypt's 1938 Rolls Royce. It felt really amazing to see a piece of history right there in front of me. I'll add that to my imaginary editorial as well.

Croc Clutch

Now this is the type of accessory you treasure forever.  Nancy Gonzalez oversized crocodile clutch in yummy ocean green retails for KD 900+ and it's available at Aïshti boutique in the Avenues Phase II.  And I can't believe they have the entire collection on display so close to the boutique's entrance! So tempting for all the Winona Ryders of the world to shoplift as they exit the door! Nah just kidding! I'm pretty sure all the bags have their own security tag. Right Aïshti?

Just Like MTV Clips

You know those funky and very artistic animated clips which MTV used to show between songs and commercial breaks as a form of branding? (I want my MTV clips?), well, this featured clip by Kuwaiti Artist Tamara Al Samerraie reminded me of MTV's clips. The following is a description of the video as shown on YouTube:

"She runs up the minaret, a 55 meter spiral known as the Malwiyya. It rises opposite the qibla of the Great Mosque of AL Mutawakkil built in the 7th century in the city of Samarra, Iraq. The Mosque was considered the largest in the Islamic world at one time. The Malwiyya itself was one of the most impressive examples of Abbasid architecture. It is said that the Caliph Al Mutawakkil used to ride up the spiral on his Egyptian donkey all the way to the top to protect the Muezzin. No longer used as a place of prayer, the Malwiyya has become an organic icon, an appropriate sound vehicle to disseminate her crying moment before dark where speech is extinct, a black hole, the exit of being."

Just Like Chanel?

And a very very ugly version/inspiration of the classic quilted Chanel chain bag. I spotted these lace covered bags at Kookai boutique in The Avenues and they retail for KD 29.

Katrantzou Hits TopShop Kuwait

Mary Katrantzou's second capsule collection for TopShop has arrived at TopShop store in the Avenues. No wait let me correct that, I have spotted two pieces only from Katrantzou's collection. The designer has used her signature prints in her designs. They can be worn as a top or a mini-shift dress and are priced KD 79.500 each.  I haven't seen the scarves nor the nail stickers which were supposed to be part of the collection.  Maybe they were sold out...

Who will be the Lucky Winner of Kage Giveaway?

Remember the Kage Giveaway to Confashions Readers which I have announced here a few weeks ago and asked you how would you style the limited edition Kage t-shirt? Well, I was so overwhelmed by the amazing feedback I have received. You guys really know how to add a flair to a white tee! Thank you to ALL who took the time and participated! <3

It was hard to pick the finalists with so many stylish options to choose from.  So we filtered the entries and now let's see the finalists starting with a text-only entry:

"I'd style the t-shirt with a long silk jewel colored skirt, and edge it into the maximalism look of the season for a decadent evening look by accessorizing with lots of bejeweled jewelery in bright jewel colors, also mixing in some Perspex jewelery and accessories to keep it modern. All the color will surround the monochrome t-shirt so showing it off."

And now the images....

We'll be announcing the winner tomorrow, so stay tuned.

I Heart My: The O Team

I call them Rashad's Angels, as in Rashad Tabaiat the owner of Al Othman, one of the best high-end boutiques in Kuwait. In today's I Heart My feature, I'll be showcasing the team behind all the fabulous things we see in-store, on the O blog, and on the Outlet. Let's find out what's inside the O girls' closets and why the items they have chosen are their favorite.

Thrifty O
I heart my Christian Louboutin plum suede mid-calf boots. I love them so much because they are so chic in the winter, and the color is unexpected. I'll be sad to watch them hide away for the whole summer, which seems to have already begun. I was worried these boots wouldn't match anything, but I've actually worn them with everything from dresses with tights to leggings, skinny jeans, and slim black pants. I love wearing neutral colors so they give my winter outfits a subtle touch of plum. I also bought them half a size bigger so I can wear them with thick comfortable socks! Too bad my favorite item is seasonal! I bought them from the AlOthman Outlet.

Snob O
As soon as I saw this Alexis Mabille skirt swoosh down the runway, I was smitten! Granted, it came down as a bridal ensemble, I knew it didn’t have to be worn that way. Its my favorite piece from AlOthman because it encompasses all that fashion is, dramatic, fun, wild, playful, girly, yet also classic and elegant.  This skirt may seem unwearable, but actually I’ve worn it to a wedding with a silk one shoulder lime top, to a party with a grey tee, and my sister borrowed it to a Sex and the City themed party filling her blouse with corsages.  It was perfect on all occasions and can be worn way over the top or fun and sassy.

Miss O
My favorite piece from AlOthman is my silk jersey little black dress by Proenza Schouler. I value pieces that I can wear over and over again without feeling like I am repeating my outfits. This dress is perfect because thought it s quite short, it has long sleeves to keep it conservative. Also, I have worn it in the winter with thick tights and boots, in the autumn with patterned tights and heels, in the spring with layered cardigans, and in the summer with bare legs and gold flats. It is the perfect little black dress that you can change up with accessories and different belts. It is also crazy comfortable and the jersey fabric just molds to your body. I simple adore it!
Chatty O
I heart my Zero+ Maria Cornejo geometric print dress.  The flattering fit, unique pattern, and light fabric make this my favorite summer piece. I must say that it looks extra stunning with a sun kissed tan! I love the versatility of this dress and have worn it to gatherings, dinners, and work of course.

I enjoy pairing the Zero piece with golden flat sandals in the daytime, but I find my neutral Christian Louboutin Bianca platforms ideal when wearing this look for nighttime occasions.  The ensemble is never complete without a stack of my cherished golden bangles and hoop earrings … they just add the perfect amount of flair!

I definitely can’t wait to embrace the warmer weather with my Zero + Maria Cornejo dress!

Artsy O
I heart my Erdem trench coat from his Fall 2008 collection. The black on olive green color blocking screams edgy mixed with classy. Such a fun coat guaranteed to spice up any outfit, and most importantly it’s oh so comfortable!

Sassy Studded Soles

Who needs a pepper spray or stun guns when you've got these babes on your soles!! If you haven't bagged your studded Louboutin pair last season, then here's your golden (and silvery) chance. Al Othman boutique have received a bunch of studded heels and flats from Christian Louboutin's new season's collection. Except for the last photo, the peach colored peep-toe heel with hook-like detail, this one, which kind of looked off, is by Georgina Goodman and it's available at Scarpe boutique in the Avenues.

Think clean lines, sporty cuts and cool neutral colors. From asymmetric dresses to paneled jackets and minimalist separates, make it your day-to-night uniform!

Copy Cat: Dolce and Gabbana White Lace Dress

I have a weakness for dresses and skirts designed using great quality lace. Something about the delicateness of the fabric and its oh-so-feminine pattern which makes it so irresistible to touch.  Like this white lace long sleeves dress from Dolce & Gabbana’s S/S 2011 collection, also worn by Nicole Kidman during a recent function. The dress is beautifully cut and has that timeless and seasonless appeal. It can be worn with black opaque tights in winter or a great exotic tan (or self tanner!) and pair of long turquoise earrings during the summer.

To copy Nicole’s look (or preferably dress!) head to Aïshti boutique located in the Avenues Phase II.  Price tag? KD 615.

I also liked this detail which I've spotted on one of the white cotton tops of Dolce & Gabbana's latest collection. Price tag? KD 188

Dear Confashion: Gris Accessories

A few weeks ago, I saw a post by Tidbit de Jour which featured unique and so pretty silk tops by a brand called Rachel Rose. I really liked them but was too lazy to shop online (gasp!). And then a few days ago, I receive an email from a group called Gris Accessories to check out their new collection and voila they're there and can be delivered to me the next (or same) day! How convenient.
