Closet Detox

The first step towards a more positive fashion outlook is some serious closet detox (aka decluttering). Not only do you make room for your Fall purchases, but also you give a chance for other fashionistas to make use of unwanted and barely used clothes and accessories. So I took advantage of the long weekend and worked on my closet. I didn't realize I had so many pairs of jeans in all shades of blue! And I have never worn the shoes featured in this photo (what a shame I know!). Why did I buy them in the first place?! Beats me!

Note to self: No need for boy-friend jeans in 3 almost identical colors!.

Hot Hot Hot!

Copy Cat: Uma Thurman's Nina Ricci Bag

Uma Thurman hasn't been under the spotlight for quite sometime. I haven't seen her in gossip magazines or fashion photo shoots for at least a year. So it was refreshing to see her casual chic street style totting a leather flap front messenger bag from Olivier Theysken’s Autumn/Winter collection for Nina Ricci. I have a weakness for messenger bags, they're so easy to carry and would fit all my stuff.

Nina Ricci bag collections will be available at AlOstura this Fall.

To Hunting We Shall Go

If you like the thrill of bargain hunting for designer duds, then you will have a blast at Villa Moda's outlet store at AlManshar, Fahaheel next to Al Kout Mall. I only found out about it recently (that it was turned into VM's warehouse). Women, Men, and Kids brands were up to 80% off. Marni, Prada, Gucci, Fendi, Rue du Mail, Thakoon, Peter Som, Juicy, Bottega, Dolce & Gabanna.. and much more. You will everything from evening gowns and cocktail dresses, to formal wear, casual chis items/denim, and accessories.

This is the entrance of Villa Moda AlManshar

Now THIS is a collector's item. This is a beautiful in stand-out shape outdoor coat for people watching at a ski resort, or marching down fifth avenue in November (you get my drift) by Moncler from it's Gamme Rouge A/W 2008 collection designed by none other than the mind-blowing creative brain of Giambattista Valli. Was KD 1,621, and now it's priced at KD 324.

Here's another Moncler/Giambattista Valli creation. Was KD 726, and now it's priced at KD 145.

Light wool Marni Jacket in shades of grey is an investment pieces that you will wear for years to come. It was priced at KD 607 and now it's only KD 121.

Now this is a beeeeaautiiiful strapless black and hot pink evening gown by Roksanda Ilincic. Was KD 975 and now it's almost KD 190. Just look at the detail of the back of the dress.

Don't get turned off by the crowded racks and long lines of stacked clothes, you really need to pull up your sleeves and dig in deep to find real gems.

Long lines of discounted designer shoes at your service

Now this is what I call a Boot Camp!

I found this cute LBD by a brand called OHNE TITLE. It has a charming structured ruching from the back (plain from the front) and you won't believe it's price! KD 61 ONLY! I swear! And it's from the S/S 2008 collection. It was priced at KD 404. Not bad at all!

Sale Away With Harvey

My trip to Dubai wouldn't be complete without paying our dearest friend Harvey a friendly and guilt-free visit. Harvey Nichols was having a huge Summer sale as you may have already figured it out from the window display shown above. So I went out splurging on a belated birthday shopping spree, there's always an excuse to shop!, and I started picking through the racks of designer duds and bargain items. And here are my favorite finds:

I'm head over heels with this Richard Nicoll bright orangish sleeveless cocktail dress with a thick structured ribbon detail on the front. The dress's on discount and it's priced now for around KD 200.

The accessories section of Harvey on the ground floor had more buzz than the clothes section.

The gorgeous Loeffler Randall multi strap heels in brown leather would definitely take you from summer to fall.

These cute Lanvin flats are ideal for casual chic outings

Some items were not on sale like these Christian Louboutin heels and boots as they're from the pre-fall collection.

GASP! Another Pierre Hardy stunning creation!

Celestina and Christian Louboutin's clutches were up to 50% off. And on the below picture you can see some Balenciaga bags on 60% off.

Harvey Nichols is located within the Mall of the Emirates. For inquires, please call (+971) 4 4098888.

Sprouse In Style

LV fans would be thrilled to know that the latest Sprouse collection of leopard print scarf in night blue and pale rose have recently arrived at Louis Vuitton's boutique at Salhiya Complex. Price tag? KD 201. And according to the SA, only one scarf is left from the pale rose one (featured in the above photo).

Dear Confashion: My Purchase from Dubai Mall

I have received this nice e-mail from Alyazia from Al-Ain, UAE.

"Regarding my Dubai mall experience, the sales were unbelievable this year, especially the Chloe handbags & the Givenchy shoes in Gallery Lafayette. The kids fashion section is one of the best in the country, they've managed to gather the best selling boutiques in one place instead of running all around the city.

I chose to show you one of my recent purchase from the BCBG Max Azria which will surely catch the eye of the girls seeking affordable items, its a very cute crafted shoe in bronze for only 770 AED (around KD 70 maybe?). They are also available in silver & black. Selena Gomez have been spotted wearing them."
Thank you so much for sharing Alyazia. Your e-mail made my day and hope to hear more from you and from the rest of the fashionable readers.

Dining Dubai Mall

Dubai Mall has the largest number of food and beverage offers I have ever seen so far. According to their site, there will be over 150 outlets from fine dining to casual eateries offering a wide range of tastes to suit all shoppers. During my visit I managed to have late lunch at the futuristic looking Restaurant called Switch, the first restaurant in the UAE designed by Karim Rashid, one of the most prolific industrial designers of his generation. The ambiance looked stunning, and the food? It was OK... nothing to go crazy about.

That's the outside of Switch.. I liked the contemporary looking chairs
Shakespeare & Co is another cafe that caught my attention. I haven't tried it though but the place looked interesting. Their interior is a mix of Victorian style and a traditional English tea room with a modern spin.

London's Joe' Cafe

New York's Alison Nelson's Chocolate Bar offers cutting-edge gourmet chocolates

Armani Cafe needs no introduction..

Net-A-Porter's Mail Surprise

Yesterday I have received a mini lookbook from Net-a-Porter titled Fall's First Edit. The lookbook highlights the new season's trends and statement accessories: Minimalism, Boy School, Glossy Dynasty... and more. The 10 pages lookbook was such a tease! I want to see MORE! Net-a-porter, please triple your pages for your next edition..

Mother of All Malls - Part IIII

I loved the name of this furniture store "I wanna go home"....

This is my final post on Dubai Mall, phew! So I think now you have a pretty much clear picture of Fashion Avenue. If you have already been there, let me know what you think of the mall? and what was your best fashion purchase if any. More to come from my Dubai trip.

A cool dance floor in thw middle of the mall... Now get down on it..

Jimmy Choo was having a sale bonanza

Chloe shoes on sale and last season's bags too

More Chloe bags on sale...

Shoe Fever

Just when I thought that I had a beefy budget for my Fall 2009 purchases and just when we were are all calming down from the shopping fevers in Dubai & New York, Al Othman pulls me back in with their new Outlet store. The moment I found out about their latest Shoes and Accessories Outlet I immediately had another spending fever and of course you now know the drill... here are some eye candy for you at remarkably low prices!

My #1 favorite pick from Al Othman's Outlet are these ankle studded boots from Louboutin

I loved the yellow python flats by Oscar de la Renta

A loubie summer wedge heels

Gorgeous statement necklaces for the color crazy fashionista (was KD 79 and now KD 24) or a see-through structured necklace by Oscar de la Renta (was KD 339 and now it's priced at KD 102).. HOT!
Loubs here and there.. and EVERYWHERE!!!!! Sigh

And that's the window display of the store... click here to find out more about it

Mother of All Malls - Part III

More photos from my trip to Dubai Mall, let's start with Stella McCartney's window display. The pre-fall collection was already on display.

I fell head over heels for this creamy wool jacket by Stella McCartney with billowy 3/4 sleeves. The tight fitted sleeves shown here are actually detachable for short-to-long sleeves look. And the fitting room was just lovely. Very cozy and neat. Price tag? Around KD 530.

That's Temperley's window display

Oscar de la Renta boutique will be opening soon

The pre-fall collection was already on display at Alexander Mcqueen's boutique.

Now these colored python heels would go perfectly well with my Stella McCartney's wool jacket

The inside of the Hermes store. At least 3 girls went in desperately seeking for a Birkin/Kelly. And once placed an order for a pink croc 35cm Birkin, needless to say that the sales lady was more than happy to help.

Hermes bracelets, or what is left of them...

Glamorous Chanel mannequins in pre-fall collection

More photos tomorrow...

Spectacular Sarah

I'm proud to be showcasing some of the top emerging names in the fashion industry in the Middle East. And today's new and inspiring creative talent is from the lovely Lebanon. Recently graduated from Parsons the New School of Design in New York with a Fashion Design degree, ASK alumni and Lebanese designer Sarah Hermez is my latest talent discovery from our region. Sarah has interned with Issey Miyake, Stephanie Coudert, and Rabih Keyrouz. And according to my sources, one of her dresses has been actually displayed in Saks Fifth Avenue. How cool is that!?

Featured here are some of her spectacular spring/summer Parsons thesis collection inspired by African masai warriors and their extraordinary use of color, massive beaded necklaces. Her collection was also experimenting with texture through knitting multicolor strips of chiffon, organza, silk, and the creation of hand-painted prints. A fun and bright collection that adds an enviously jolt of vibrant hues to any wardrobe.

To contact Sarah Hermez, please send an e-mail to sarahermez@gmail.com.

Mother of All Malls - Part II

It was 10:00 am, wearing my most comfortable shopping shoes and fitting-room-friendly clothes, I head straight to Dubai Mall's Fashion Avenue. When I first looked around, I panicked a little! How am I supposed to check out ALL the boutiques, have time to lunch with my friend at 3pm, take a quick sea dip, AND squeeze in some Harvey Nichols at Emirates Mall... All in one day?! And I had an early flight the next day. Well guess what? By the time it was 1:30pm I covered the entire Fashion Avenue and had some extra time to check out the rest of the mall. Maybe because almost all shops were on sale? Or the walk from TopShop to Avenues Phase II has taught me to walk fast and shop faster. Anyhow, here are some photos of designer boutiques at Dubai Mall.

Calvin Klein's S/S collection was on 30% sale.. not too exciting

Catherine Malandrino had some cute cocktail dresses on sale

That's Mathew Williamson's window display, in case you were wondering..

Joseph was semi-boring...

C'N'C is not something to get excited about... very mediocre. More to share tomorrow..

Mother of All Malls - Part I

So guess where have I been to? Yup, Dubai Mall. The home to just about every major fashion and designer brand in the world. The mall is so huuuuge, equivalent in size to more than 50 soccer fields, The size of the shops reminded me of Las Vegas's malls in terms of space and variety.

According to their site, Dubai Mall features more than 1,200 stores and over 120 food & beverage outlets. Amongst its world-class attractions are: an Aquarium with its own indoor tunnel, an Olympic-size Ice Rink; and the world's largest indoor Gold Souk.

This is a glimpse of the Fashion Avenue, the one-stop shop for fashion enthusiasts in this region. It has over 70 stores/boutiques entirely dedicated to the biggest designer brands in high-end fashion, which I'll share with you tomorrow.

The flagship store of Galeries Lafayette in Paris has a branch at Dubai Mall. Product offering includes: Women, men and kids fashion, accessories, lingerie, cosmetics and fragrances, jewelry and watches, interior decoration. They had a nice selection of casual chic clothes from brands such as: Vanessa Bruno, Maje, Hoss Intropia, Manoush, Sandro, See by Chloe... and more.

I love the combo of snake skin shoes and neon yellow trimmed heels. Almost everything was on sale at Galeries Lafayette. Below is a photo of Givenchy s/s 2009 shoes section on 30% discount.

A Nod From Marie Claire

Ok so two days ago I got an MMS from my BFF that got me all giddy. It was a mobile shot of one of Marie Claire's pages (the Kuwaiti edition, July) mentioning my blog as one of the Kuwaiti female blogs worth reading. I'm more than thrilled that Marie Claire not only took the time to look at my little haven/creation, but the fact that they highlighted the diligent effort of fellow Kuwaiti female bloggers, congrats to you all. And thank you Marie Claire for appreciating our efforts.

Luxury Summer Savings

super smart shoppers seeking luxury brands at discounted prices would be thrilled to know about The Outlet store at Salhiya Complex. It has quite good selection of clothes with up to 80% off from brands such as MaxMara, Kenzo, Christian Louboutin, Marella, and Marina Rinaldi. What I like best about outlets in general is that you can sometimes find real wardrobe investment pieces at ridiculously low prices without sacrificing the item's quality. So here are some of my finds...

Can you believe that these Chrisitian Louboutin knotted peep-toe sandals are only for KD 60!?! They used to be sold for KD 199. Would look smashing with Ramadan Kaftans or for an outdoor beach party.

Leather jackets never go out of style. I loved the vibrant hue of this Philosophy Di Alberta Ferretti orange leather jacket. Pair it with dark denim, a cashmere scarf for casual outings or when traveling to cold destinations. The jacket is now priced at KD 110. It used to be KD 365.

If you're looking for a toned down leather jacket (and more budget friendly), then you might like this SportMax black leather jacket priced at KD 78. It used to be sold for KD 259.

I'm not totally crazy about this Philosophy cocktail tulle dress with red sequins embroidery, but some of you might like it. It used to be sold for KD 589 and now it's only KD 117. Not bad at all!

The Outlet is located at Salhiya Complex, Mezzanine 2. For any inquiries, please call (+965) 22411-1131.

Michelle's Moschino Mania

It seems that Michelle Obama has her heart set on Moschino lately. She wore Moschino to meet Pope Benedict last Friday. The black organza shirt with oversized bow, a silk tulle head scarf and a black skirt, were all from the Moschino Spring/Summer 2009 collection.

And when she returned home with her family to the White House in the early morning after a trip overseas to Russia, Europe, Africa and the G-8 meeting. First Lady Michelle Obama exited Marine One at the White House on July 12 wearing a Moschino floral print dress.

Round And Round We Go

I have finally managed to go to 360 Mall. And even though the mall has a vast selection of high-end luxury brands such as: YSL, Dolce & Gabanna, Bottega, Gucci, Mathew Williamson, and Mcqueen, I've found the selection to be rather on the ... yawn side. I mean, Gucci already has a branch at Al Fanar and MW is already stocked at Al Othman, so why have it in another location in a small country?! Beats me. Anyhow, I'd like to share with you some of the things that I found interesting there... (like the humongous blue chandelier shown in the above photo)

My first stop was at a new store called ShoeBox NY. I was impressed to find a selection of shoes by Loeffler Randall (shown in the photo above). I think Randall boots are the best in terms of quality and price.

These golden gladiator sandals with wings detail from ShoeBox NY reminded me of the cartoon Astérix

Bimba & Lola is another Uterqüe-like store that I really liked. It has a cute selection of budget-friendly accessories and shoes like these snake skin peep-toe kitten heels which were KD 60 or 60-something.

Melange has an adorable selection of hair bands for the Blair within you. It also has new hair band designs by Kuwaiti designer Ibrah.

And I saved the best part of my 360 visit for last, which is the Fourth Pyramid exhibition, an exhibition outlining the life of the legendary Egyptian singer Um Kalthum. I'm definitely taking my parents to this exhibition, they would LOVE it.

Here are some photos of Um Kalthum's visit to Kuwait where a Private party was held back in the 60's. I tried to figure out some of the faces here. I only was able to identify Adlah Al-Sayer. Do you recognize any of the women featured in these photos? I would have loved to be a part of this historical party/gathering. The women here all looked so chic and glamorous.

Two of my favorite paintings at the exhibition. I wasn't able to get info on whether they're for sale or not. Probably not..

And here are Um Kalthum's original handbag and shoes by Gucci. Imagine how much these vintage items would cost if they sell them. The bag looked beautiful and very classy.

What was your favorite section/store at 360 and Um Kalthum's exhibition?

H&M's Mega Sale

H&M's having their biggest sale ever! Up to 50% off on selected items starting from today across Kuwait, UAE, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, and KSA.

Net-A-Porter On The Go

Net-A-Porter has officially launched today a super-slick mobile shopping application for iPhone and iPod Touch fans. The launch was attended by designer Roland Mouret and Net-A-Porter's owner Natalie Massenet at the Apple Store in Regent Street, London.

Now that's what I call upping the ante in style.. m-style.

Devine Dining

As promised, here's my list of my favourite restaurants/cafes in beriut for this year:

  • BouBouffe has the BEST beef shawerma I have ever tried in my life and they deliver anywhere in Beirut, call them at (+961) 33-4040

  • Balima Cafe at Saifi Square opposite to Cream Boutique in Saifi Village for coffee/tea or a quick snack (1st photo). The best (and oldest) cafe in Beirut has to be Cafe Younes in Commodore Street.

  • For people watching and delicious breakfast, go to Paul Cafe in Gemmayzeh for Sunday Brunch

  • For dinner head to Centrale at Mar Maroun Street in Gemmayzeh for the atmosphere only, their food is not as good as it used to be

  • Hungry carnivores craving for juicy steaks can head to Balthus in Downtown Beirut (2nd photo) or La Parilla in Gemmayzeh. The food is amazing there

  • Casablanca located in Ain El Marrissah has the best breakfast in Beirut (and fun for some people watching too)

Serenity Now

It has been oven-hot and dusty for over a month now. And I was in desperate need of a quick getaway. So I thought to myself "There's nothing like water and sand to refresh a dusty and stressed-out soul". so, I have decided to take off to Beirut for semi-cooler climate. I wanted somewhere quiet and serene. I have already been to Eddé Sands on previous trips (too crowded and showy, has amazing pools though, but mediocre beach). So being a beach person, I headed to a secluded beach in Jyeh, almost 30 minutes South of Beirut, called Lazy B.

Lazy B was like a piece of heaven in Lebanon. It was so serene, quiet, natural, and simply beautiful. The most relaxing beach I have been to in Lebanon. Here are some photos to give you a feel of the tranquility of the place.

Beautiful clean pool overlooking the blue waters, and the beauty of it is that kids are not allowed to swim in the pool. You only hear the sound of the waves.

Outdoor beds? Take your pick! It doesn't get more relaxing than that!

This is my favourite outdoor bed, it was so comfortable and soft.

And outdoor washrooms too with beautiful bright green walls and vintage-like sinks

You can say that my short trip to Beirut was mainly to relax, rejuvenate, and EAT! No shopping or staying up late! I'll share with you tomorrow some of my favorite restaurants.

Bidoun

Bidoun first started in the fall of 2003, and I only found out about it recently (!) by coincidence when I was visiting a friend who's into Art, and came across a zillion issue of Bidoun magazines stacked on the corner of the room.

Bidoun is a contemporary arts magazine features Middle Eastern creators living both in the region, and the states & Europe. It covers different fields such as art, architecture, entertainment, and fashion. Its writers are mostly of Persian origins or from Lebanon. I was thrilled to see Kuwaiti artists interviewed like Khalid Al Gharaballi and Fatima Al Qadiri, the mag had also a piece on their latest exhibition which was held at Sultan Gallery (as shown in the below photo).

Kids'R'Us

I have received this by e-mail from a Kuwaiti guy who sells Kids'r'us tops online on CafePress.
CafePress is a community of 6.5 million members, where anyone can go online to create, sell, and buy T-Shirts and other "print-on-demand" products.

Speaking of Kids'r'us, did you know that the name was actually created by a Bayan Bilingual School's Student back in the 80's? Apparently, when Al-Ghanim company decided to open the toy store, it approached the school and announced a competition where students had to come up with a name for the store. And One Kuwaiti female BBS student won the competition. And that's how the brand was created. Nice!

I liked almost all the pieces on display at Fragiles exhibition. I especially LOVED (friends and family, please take note!) the Missoni Patchwork Vases by Stephen Burks shown below.

Time to wrap up the New York posts as I need to catch up on other posts I have in line for you. I was disappointed with the installation/artwork (or the lack of it) of Chanel's window display. However, I luved the golden lace embossed leather of this Chanel quilted bag.

You wouldn't see me purchasing these Dior's fertility statue heels shown here but they are a real show-stoppers. And the reason why I wouldn't buy them us not because of the heel, but I kind of find the thin straps of the heels a bit on the tacky side. The statue is funny and cute.

I Heart NY

I think this is the last batch of NYC's photos, hmm.. no actually I have 2 more which I will share with you tomorrow. Moving away from fifth avenue, the first place you should go to if you plan to visit NYC is the very avant-garde boutique: Opening Ceremony (on 35 Howard St). It showcases designers from a different country each year.

Siiiigh... Barneys (heart), to stock on the casual chic stuff.

Kathryn Amberleigh is a chic and very affordable shoe boutique in Nolita (max 300$!), I love how very simple the interior of the store. All white and lined with long long lines of shoes.

New Karen Millen Store At Arraya

New Karen Millen store is now open at Arraya Complex, Mezzanine 1, next to Bally. Cute selection for any girls who are looking for prom dresses or cocktail dresses on a budget.

Another Lovely Day In New York City

More photos straight from NYC's Fifth Avenue, 57th and 58th streets to be exact. Window shoppers and modern art fanatics will fall in love with the window display of the unparalleled luxury retailer Bergdorf Goodman.

The American Visionary Art Museum has decorated the window displays and they have shipped more than 50 pieces from the museum’s permanent collection to appear on BD's 11 window displays. Some art pieces even made it to the sales floor as installations. Loved it!
