November Rain

Am I the last one to know that November's bakery has moved out from Villa Karizma and that now Villa Karizma have their own cafe? I think so!

Looking Smoking Hot

One of my favorite pieces at Al Othman which I forgot to mention yesterday is this Peter Pilloto dress. I'm in love with the original rich Smokey print and colourful beading detail on the shoulders. Perfect for small family weddings or for formal receptions. Go easy on the accessories as you want this piece to stand out without being too busy or trying too hard. I think I need a new pair of heels now!

Al Othman's Sale Top Picks

Last night I found out about Al Othman's end of season sale through their addictive blog, so naturally, I dropped by the store tonight to feed my other incurable addition (aka shopping!). Of course the store never disappoints! It had a beautiful selection of the most sought-after items from the best brand names in the world. So I'd like to share with you my favorite sale picks.

Christopher Kane yellow skirt with scallop detail

Sinha-Stanic's printed 3/4 sleeves dress, would look smashing with a pair of orangish/reddish lace-up peep toe booties

Sophie Theallet white shirt dress with colored ribbon detail, ideal for brunch with the girls paired with a boho luxe bag

Proenza Schouler orange strappy sandals

Proenza Schouler dirty pink snake skin flats are around KD 132 after the discount

Devi Kroell python skin belt with huge squarish buckle, this will easily take you from summer to winter

What are your favorite sale picks from Al Othman's end of season sale?

Turkish Delight

I found these beautiful gold plated earrings with red embroidery detail at the orient shop (forgot it's name!) next to Starbucks at the airport. Perfect to wear with my Ramadan's kaftans. I think they were around KD 12. I think it's made in Turkey. There was also a nice collection of jewellery and accessories using precious stones by a Turkish designer. It's worth checking out.

Tattoo No No!

I saw these tattoo sleeves at Debenhams, the airport branch, a while back. They're printed nylon sleeves that cover your entire arm to give the illusion of a tattooed arm. Very tacky! I forgot to post about them, until a few days back when I was brutally reminded of them when I saw a Kuwaiti guy wearing them. THE HORROR!! For the love of god! Please puuhleeeeze don't work out this trend!

Burberry Day in New York‏

video

New York City’s Mayor Bloomberg has declared today, Thursday 28 May, as Burberry Day in New York. The proclamation coincides with the official lighting of the Burberry sign across the iconic Manhattan skyline, which will take place this evening during an event hosted by Burberry Chief Executive Angela Ahrendts and Burberry Creative Director Christopher Bailey for over 300 guests.

Guests will gather to watch the Burberry logos on top of the new Burberry Americas Headquarters at 444 Madison Avenue, being lit for the first time.

Burberry is also pleased to announce today that a $500,000 commitment to the Robin Hood Foundation to support public education and job training for underprivileged New Yorkers is being made by The Burberry Foundation, a committed charity organisation to help young people realise their dreams and achieve their goals and potential through their power and creativity.

Sweet & Spicy

First of all, my apologies for the bad quality photo, it was taken from my mobile. This photos was featured in last month's issue of Adam & Eve, a local lifestyle monthly magazine. The reason why I'm posting this is because I was thrilled and impressed to see Louis Vuitton's Spicy heels featured in a local interview with Kuwaiti equestrienne Dalal Al-Buaijan. Now whether the spicy heels are owned by the equestrienne or provided by the brand for the photo shoot, either way, it was refreshing to see one of the season's most sought after accessory featured in a local photo shoot.

Spooky Stylish Skulls

The best gifts come in the smallest packages. Wooohoo, I'm over the moon. So sistaaaa, I also like this pearl necklace with diamond encrusted skulls (hint hint).

Delfina Delettrez's Jewelry exhibition at Al-Sabah Art Gallery has to be one of my favorites so far, needless to say that it's a fashion related exhibition. I loved how this beautiful and stylish designer is inspired by animals, skulls, and everything spooky using gold, silver, pearls, precious stones, and diamonds. Beyond beautiful and beyond unique. This exhibition is a MUST SEE! Tomorrow is their last day. Go go gooooo!

Pretty Girl

It seems that girly girl hair accessories are all the rage. I got this by e-mail from the owner of Andrea's Beau, an brand that sells a collection of hair ornaments for women and girls. You can check them out here.

Essa's In Town

Essa boutique recently opened in Villa Moda Shuwaikh next to Marni boutique. Essa, of Indian origin, was born and bred in the UAE and is known for its color crazy traditional kaftans with a modern twist. Vibrant chiffons, found vintage fabrics, and silk and lace, are just some of the materials that he works together to enhance the feminine form on his colorful gowns, frocks, tops and dresses. Some of his Kaftan designs would make the perfect choice for Ramadan's ghabga.

Essa’s path to fashion notoriety began following studies at the more flamboyant end of fashion: a degree in costume design preceded his return to his native Sharjah where he trained as a pattern cutter with the skilled tailors in neighboring Dubai. He sold his creations through XVA Gallery in Dubai and started to build a business on one-off commissions from fans. But it was a fortuitous meeting with Zayan Ghandour owner of Sauce boutique in Dubai that really put Essa on the local fashion map. Ghandour’s initial request for six pieces sold out the moment they hit her shop’s floor and he had to quickly up his production ante to cope with growing demand.

Essa is available at Sauce Dubai and Abu Dhabi, DNA in Riyadh, Mahat Jeddah and Zai Doha.

Sugar For My Honey

I also got this by e-mail, for all the yummy mommies out there, if you have a cute little girl with fine hair you probably have trouble finding clips that are strong enough to not slip and soft enough to not snag her hair.

Lil’ Sugarplum hair clips have a velcro grip to help them stay put. They are also super-cute. With many styles to choose from, Get them here.

Introducing Ms. Shields

I got introduced to a new shoes brand called Eileen Shields by its rep. Shields' shoes have been described by British Vogue as "delectable … that rarest of things: high concept, yet completely unpretentious." Eileen Shields footwear is ideal for chic day wear and for intelligent and stylish working women who love modern desings. Shields worked for Donna Karan International in New York for over a decade. Since 2007, Shields has collaborated with Maria Cornejo, producing the footwear collection for Zero+Maria Cornejo. Shields has also had her shoes featured in the 'Sex and the City' movie. I picked out 3 of my favourite designs from her collection. They look sooo comfy and pretty at the same time.

Je t'aime

I have a weakness for any clothes and accessories decorated with red hearts. And since I heart paris beau coup, I couldn't resist these adorable and perfect for travelling cotton shirts from Oysho at Marina Mall. They'd look equally chic with sailor pants.

The Good Ol' Days..

These Dr Martens Exclusive tie dye boot
, around KD 56 at BrownsFashion.com, made me take a walk down memory lane. it's too hot to consider purchasing them. But you know what they say.. Here today, gone tomorrow.

Exclusively For You

Shop the latest, limited-edition Exclusives only available at Net-A-Porter from leading designers including Jason Wu, Halston, Christian Louboutin and RM by Roland Mouret.

Some Souk Love

I passed by I Love Souk recently and I even loved it more than I did before. I loved how it looked entirely different with it's bright decor and use of light bulps everywhere. Also, there were a lot of interesting, funny, and new additions since I've last been there.. Here's a sneak peak...

A section of I Love Souk had a small display of previous exhibition: 5.5 Icon meets Icons, which celebrated the world’s most iconic perfume, Chanel No.5. Different artists and designers were commissioned to take Chanel No.5, and reinterpret it in their own style.

The above artistic and colorful scruptures are the creation of artist Mark Dean of Dean Project which also had an exhibition at Al-Sabah Art Gallery recently. And just so you know, pieces shown on the above photo are all sold out.

I loved the concept of these cotton shirts, each shirt is like a brief lesson of Kuwait's history. It givs an insight of mager catastrophies and bad incidents that happened in the past.

Murakami inspired pieces anyone?

My favorite section was the loooong woden table with all kind of accessories. It's my fave only because of the funny comment written on the table next to each item being sold. Very creative indeed!

And last but not least, this chandelleir is also part of Dean Project (And it's sold out already). It looked stunning.

I Love Souk is located on top off Al Sabah Art & Design Gallery, outside Al Corniche Club and to the left of Athletes Foot, Arabian Gulf Road.

I Heart Katerina Psoma

I'm in love with Katerina Psoma's accessories available at GojiBoutique.com. And you might as well check out the latest arrivals of jumpsuits and colorful summery dresses.

Event: Delfina Delettrez's Jewelry Collection

Delfina Delettrez has inherited the creative passion for fashion and accessories from her parents Silvia Fendi and Bernard Delettrez, the venerable French jeweler. A fourth generation Fendi, Delfina, is based in Rome. She is exhibiting her limited edition jewelry collection for the first time in the Middle East at Al Sabah Art & Design Gallery from May 23 for private viewing.

Delfina’s first collection of jewels was presented to the international press in October 2007 at Colette, Paris. The collection consisted of jewelry shaped like skulls, poisonous insects, frogs and wild animals. Two items from the collection, a ring and a bracelet, were purchased by the Museum of Decorative Arts of the Louvre and now form part of the permanent collection in the Jewellery section. The press has since then been raving about her unstoppable success and devout cult following.

Her new collection is inspired by dreamlike visions, ancient beliefs, superstitions, popular traditions, ex-votos, gardens and animals in paradisiacal colours and surreal effects. The collection uses gold, silver, enamel, precious stones, fur, bone and tusks.

Al Sabah Art & Design Gallery is located outside Al Corniche Club to the left of Athletes Foot, Arabian Gulf Road.

Gypsy Queen

I'm not a big fan of French brand Manoush (French word for gypsy), but on my recent visit to the brand's store at The Avenues Phase II, I found some really irresistible and ultra girly pieces with a very boho luxe edge. Like this adorable peach off the shoulder swimsuit with ruffles and a cameo detail, the embroidered collarless off-white jacket with golden metallic thin belt (KD 97), and a blue printed top (KD 136), perfect for lounging around for looong and lazy summer nights.

Bling Balmain

Spotted! The studded and all blinged Balmain heels on the "catwalk-worthy" shoe shelf of Al Othman. These were probably the most published pair of accessories on all types of media for the S/S season.

How would you were these pair of sparkling heels to make them look different than the catwalk?

There's going to be a reception for the women who made us all proud 2 days ago: Aseel al-Awadi, Rola Dashti, Salwa al-Jassar and Massouma al-Mubarak and who won parliamentary seats and made history. A very well deserved win. The event will be held tomorrow Tuesday, May 19, 2009 from 7:00pm - 9:00pm at Khaldiya, Block 2, Alferdous St (Women’s Culural Society Headquarter). Love Triangle

I absolutely love large handbags and oversized clutches, especially when they come in unique textures. So imagine my thrill when I saw this fabulous Devi Kroell oversized frame clutch with leather triangles all over at Al Othman the other day. Simply irresistible!

The Fringe Factor

I'm loving the fringe trend lately but I'm too cautious with my fringed purchases as I don’t want them to look too "Pocahontas-y" or cowgirlesque. Sporting the fringe trend should be a little sexy, and a tad bit fun to wear. And you have to make sure that your outfit is more on the boho luxe side. So the other day I found a nice line of fringed bags and footwear at Kenneth Cole for those on a budget, like the ones shown above. It comes in flats and a medium-high heels. But my ultimate fringe favorite would have to be of course the Christian Louboutin Deva 120 suede fringed boots. Sergio Rossi boutique at salhiya had also some really nice fringed heels and gladiator flats.

Event: Dar Al-Athar al-Islamiyyah’s 14th Annual Reception

Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah held an evening reception to celebrate the end of it's 14th Annual Cultural year at the Al Americani Cultural Centre last Wednesday. Guests were invited to explore the lovely historic building and discovered presentations related to Dar Al-Athaar's past, present, and future. My favourite sections were: 1) the old photos installation of AMH, as shown in the above photo. And the Mezzari exhibition shown in the below photos.

The Mezzari showcased ancient Italian artistic fabrics, dating back to the late 18th and 19th centuries. ''Mezzari" became popular by the middle of the eighteenth century, when in Genoa women used them to cover themselves or as headdresses.

Me, Mathew, and H&M

Today was the debut of Matthew Williamson’s capsule collection for H&M which was held at the Avenues branch. The collection combined vibrant neo 80's colors with some hippie chic vibe to it. Apparently, the store was open to the public around 9am, so by the time people got there around 10-ish, the racks were pretty much almost empty. There was no sign of the short sequined dress that was donned by a lot of celebs, it was either the first item that got sold out or was not there in the first place. Two of my fave items of the collection were selling like hot cakes: 1) The pink fuschia dress with padded hips and 2) the cobalt blue suit. Some items were very mediocre and semi-overrated. I also liked the mint green skinny jeans and the studded belt which was also sold out as soon as I turned my head to the other side. There wasn't much time to think of what to buy/try on. If you don't grab it instantly, forget about it. Here are some photos of the event:

I hated the cardigan shown above, the embellishment was a bit on the tacky side. I actually liked the men's collection even more! It was a mixture of preppy hippie cool. The men's section was untouched, so guys.. I think you still have a chance to buy from this capsule collection.

The verdict? I'd have to say that I was slightly impressed with the quality of some of the items of the collection. It'd def 10 times better than the Cavalli one. I'd like to see new designers teaming up with H&M like Jason Wu or Peter Jensen. A word of advice to the event planners, try canapé next time instead of the huge Starbucks muffins and croissants..

Travel With An "IT Bag"

By now every one of you knows that IT bags are overrated. Erratic fashion frenzy people have moved on to the IT shoes and the IT pieces. So it was kind of funny when Longchamp revealed their "IT Bag" in an attempt to mock the so-passe IT totes trend.

As seen on the brand's summer Kate Moss ads, the "Ceci est un IT Bag" ("This is an IT Bag" in French) has black leather handles and a drawing using the same print design of Longchamp's popular bags. The bag has magnatic closure and a zipper compartment inside, and it comes in beige and orange canvas. I personally think that the bag is cute to use for travelling and for the beach.

"Ceci est un IT Bag" is now available at Longchamp boutique at The Avenues Phase II. Price tag? KD 95 for the medium sized bag and KD 90 for the large size. Yes, the larger bag is cheaper for some reason.

They came..
I saw..

Al Othman is located at Mariam Complex, Salem AlMubarak St, Salmiya. For inquires, please call (+965) 2-575-4954.

Zip It

I don't usually buy heavy clothes during this hot weather unless:
  1. it's something not to be missed
  2. Would still be on-trend for the next season... HOPEFULLY!
  3. And I really really reeeeallyy need it

These conditions all apply to this the-Sartorialist-worthy long sleeve jacket with multi zipper details from Malene Birger. I'm in love with the huge asymmetrical ruffle on one side. It gives the jacket a sweet rock chic character. The jacket would look fab with the tightest skinny jeans or leather leggings, a tank top, studded stilettos, skull-motif ring, and winged-out eyeliner. Price tag? KD 128.

Malene Birger boutique is located at Marina Mall opposite to Oysho and next to Pull & Bear.

Barbie Love

A very special friend has made my day by treating me with a box of two of my favorite things: Barbie and chocolates from Hotel Chocolat, a luxury chocolatier from the UK.

Hotel Chocolat created a limited edition box set: The Barbie Box to mark her 50th anniversary and 50 years of 'unapologetic glam' of a style-superstar-extraordinaire. The Love Barbie Box of chocolates is beautifully packaged in a small pink box that has a set of 8 micro-slabs in four naturally colored smooth yummy chocolate flavors: Hazelnut, Milk Chocolate, Strawberry, and Vanilla. Yummmmy! Thaaanks love!

Reiss's Pieces

Reiss is one of those contemporary stores that bridge the gap between very high street retailers and designer brands in terms of quality and price. You'll always find stylish and well cut pieces which will stand the test of time (ok.. at least 2-4 seasons!!). And by the way, I noticed lately that I've been eyeing accessories more than clothes! Maybe I'm being too picky with clothes this season? Anyhow.. I liked the evening satin clutches with ruched detailing and this very Ava Gardner-ish 40's style ankle strap black heels with a huge bow-like details on the side.

Cardamom And Lime

Browsing through Amazon.com or any bookshop in Kuwait, you can easily find hundreds of cook books on Middle Eastern cuisines. But to find a cook book written by a Kuwaiti girl in English about recopies from the Arabian Gulf is something that took me by surprise. And a very pleasant surprise it was.

Sarah al-Hamad is a food writer who divides her time between London and Kuwait. Passionate about the food and cooking traditions of the region, she wrote a book titled: Cardamom and Lime: Recipes from the Arabian Gulf, which features traditional dishes from the Gulf. The book is beautifully photographed and very easy to follow.

I strongly recommend buying this book. You can use it as a coffee table book, a house warming gift for your Kuwaiti friend who doesn't know how to cook (or needs her cook to learn Kuwaiti cuisine), or a gift to your western friends.

Kudos to Sarah, I'm very proud of you and I wish you the best of luck. Hope to see more books by you in the future.

Bye Kitty

If you're still not over the Hello Kitty trend that's been going around lately, then head to Oysho, you will find casual outerwear, pajamas, hair clips, lingerie, clothes to wear around the house, and a variety of fun accessories with your favorite cute cat. I used to be a Hello Kitty collector back in the day (waaay back in the day), so these things would have had more appeal to me back then... It was nice to see them and take a walk down memory lane.

Oysho offers the cutest in women's lingerie, undergarments, and lounging at home casual wear. It is located at Marina Mall in Salmiya and The Avenues phase I.

Burberry To Dress British Supermodels at the Met

Burberry will be dressing Agyness Deyn and Twiggy at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Benefit Gala in New York on Monday 4 May. They will both be wearing custom made one-off pieces.

The Gala will be celebrating the opening of The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion exhibition, which explores 50 years of iconic fashions throughout the women whose faces, figures and attitudes shaped and personified them.

Twiggy and Agyness Deyn are two of the most iconic British supermodels who have shaped the look of fashion over the last 50 years and represent the faces of past and current British fashion.

I'm so excited about this event! Seeing all those beautiful people dressed to the nines gives me an adrenaline rush. Of course, I'll share with you my fave looks after the event and don't forget to tell me your favorites.

The Show Steppers

Nothing makes an outfit like a pair of statement platform heels with the most exquisite details and plenty of adornment. My first and fave pick are these Nicholas Kirkwood black patent platforms with pearls around the sole and a white and black lace detail over the toes.

Or how about taking your heels to new style heights with a pair of sassy YSL's patent platform heels with straps in an interesting combination of black, pink, and gold.

Shoes are available at Villa Moda located in Shuwaikh Free Trade Zone.

Eye-Pop TopShop

Jonathan Saunders's capsule collection for TopShop is now available in store at The Avenues. The capsule collection was more like a pill collection! I only found these 2 dresses.. I don't know where the rest of the collection is. It was either sold out or did not arrive in the first place.

Anyhow, to look very on trend you can wear these credit crunch friendly and bold bodycon dresses of eye-popping colour with peep toe booties or statement platform heels. The dress is around KD 57.

Color Me Mizrahi

Isaac Mizrahi’s colorful collection for Liz Claiborne hit Kuwait bringing a new collection of smart and snappy clothes for sophisticated women.

The collection is very suitable for office wear and it’s more on the grown-up side. And if you purchase from the collection you get a free limited edition scarf by Mr. Mizrahi. But honestly, I wasn’t too impressed with the "limited" collection (plus I’m not a fan of Mizrahi); the lookbook was much more interesting than what was actually in-store. The only piece I liked was this bright yellow trench coat.

Liz Claiborne is located at Marina Mall, Salmiya.
