Turkish Delight
I found these beautiful gold plated earrings with red embroidery detail at the orient shop (forgot it's name!) next to Starbucks at the airport. Perfect to wear with my Ramadan's kaftans. I think they were around KD 12. I think it's made in Turkey. There was also a nice collection of jewellery and accessories using precious stones by a Turkish designer. It's worth checking out. Tattoo No No!
I saw these tattoo sleeves at Debenhams, the airport branch, a while back. They're printed nylon sleeves that cover your entire arm to give the illusion of a tattooed arm. Very tacky! I forgot to post about them, until a few days back when I was brutally reminded of them when I saw a Kuwaiti guy wearing them. THE HORROR!! For the love of god! Please puuhleeeeze don't work out this trend!Thursday, May 28, 2009

Sweet & Spicy
First of all, my apologies for the bad quality photo, it was taken from my mobile. This photos was featured in last month's issue of Adam & Eve, a local lifestyle monthly magazine. The reason why I'm posting this is because I was thrilled and impressed to see Louis Vuitton's Spicy heels featured in a local interview with Kuwaiti equestrienne Dalal Al-Buaijan. Now whether the spicy heels are owned by the equestrienne or provided by the brand for the photo shoot, either way, it was refreshing to see one of the season's most sought after accessory featured in a local photo shoot. Spooky Stylish Skulls
The best gifts come in the smallest packages. Wooohoo, I'm over the moon. So sistaaaa, I also like this pearl necklace with diamond encrusted skulls (hint hint).Delfina Delettrez's Jewelry exhibition at Al-Sabah Art Gallery has to be one of my favorites so far, needless to say that it's a fashion related exhibition. I loved how this beautiful and stylish designer is inspired by animals, skulls, and everything spooky using gold, silver, pearls, precious stones, and diamonds. Beyond beautiful and beyond unique. This exhibition is a MUST SEE! Tomorrow is their last day. Go go gooooo!

Pretty Girl

It seems that girly girl hair accessories are all the rage. I got this by e-mail from the owner of Andrea's Beau, an brand that sells a collection of hair ornaments for women and girls. You can check them out here.
Essa's In Town
Essa boutique recently opened in Villa Moda Shuwaikh next to Marni boutique. Essa, of Indian origin, was born and bred in the UAE and is known for its color crazy traditional kaftans with a modern twist. Vibrant chiffons, found vintage fabrics, and silk and lace, are just some of the materials that he works together to enhance the feminine form on his colorful gowns, frocks, tops and dresses. Some of his Kaftan designs would make the perfect choice for Ramadan's ghabga.

Essa’s path to fashion notoriety began following studies at the more flamboyant end of fashion: a degree in costume design preceded his return to his native Sharjah where he trained as a pattern cutter with the skilled tailors in neighboring Dubai. He sold his creations through XVA Gallery in Dubai and started to build a business on one-off commissions from fans. But it was a fortuitous meeting with Zayan Ghandour owner of Sauce boutique in Dubai that really put Essa on the local fashion map. Ghandour’s initial request for six pieces sold out the moment they hit her shop’s floor and he had to quickly up his production ante to cope with growing demand.Essa is available at Sauce Dubai and Abu Dhabi, DNA in Riyadh, Mahat Jeddah and Zai Doha.
Sugar For My Honey
I also got this by e-mail, for all the yummy mommies out there, if you have a cute little girl with fine hair you probably have trouble finding clips that are strong enough to not slip and soft enough to not snag her hair.Lil’ Sugarplum hair clips have a velcro grip to help them stay put. They are also super-cute. With many styles to choose from, Get them here.

Introducing Ms. Shields
.bmp)
I got introduced to a new shoes brand called Eileen Shields by its rep. Shields' shoes have been described by British Vogue as "delectable … that rarest of things: high concept, yet completely unpretentious." Eileen Shields footwear is ideal for chic day wear and for intelligent and stylish working women who love modern desings. Shields worked for Donna Karan International in New York for over a decade. Since 2007, Shields has collaborated with Maria Cornejo, producing the footwear collection for Zero+Maria Cornejo. Shields has also had her shoes featured in the 'Sex and the City' movie. I picked out 3 of my favourite designs from her collection. They look sooo comfy and pretty at the same time.

Some Souk Love

I loved the concept of these cotton shirts, each shirt is like a brief lesson of Kuwait's history. It givs an insight of mager catastrophies and bad incidents that happened in the past.Wednesday, May 20, 2009

Event: Delfina Delettrez's Jewelry Collection
Delfina’s first collection of jewels was presented to the international press in October 2007 at Colette, Paris. The collection consisted of jewelry shaped like skulls, poisonous insects, frogs and wild animals. Two items from the collection, a ring and a bracelet, were purchased by the Museum of Decorative Arts of the Louvre and now form part of the permanent collection in the Jewellery section. The press has since then been raving about her unstoppable success and devout cult following.

Gypsy Queen
I'm not a big fan of French brand Manoush (French word for gypsy), but on my recent visit to the brand's store at The Avenues Phase II, I found some really irresistible and ultra girly pieces with a very boho luxe edge. Like this adorable peach off the shoulder swimsuit with ruffles and a cameo detail, the embroidered collarless off-white jacket with golden metallic thin belt (KD 97), and a blue printed top (KD 136), perfect for lounging around for looong and lazy summer nights.

The Fringe Factor
I'm loving the fringe trend lately but I'm too cautious with my fringed purchases as I don’t want them to look too "Pocahontas-y" or cowgirlesque. Sporting the fringe trend should be a little sexy, and a tad bit fun to wear. And you have to make sure that your outfit is more on the boho luxe side. So the other day I found a nice line of fringed bags and footwear at Kenneth Cole for those on a budget, like the ones shown above. It comes in flats and a medium-high heels. But my ultimate fringe favorite would have to be of course the Christian Louboutin Deva 120 suede fringed boots

Travel With An "IT Bag"
By now every one of you knows that IT bags are overrated. Erratic fashion frenzy people have moved on to the IT shoes and the IT pieces. So it was kind of funny when Longchamp revealed their "IT Bag" in an attempt to mock the so-passe IT totes trend.
As seen on the brand's summer Kate Moss ads, the "Ceci est un IT Bag" ("This is an IT Bag" in French) has black leather handles and a drawing using the same print design of Longchamp's popular bags. The bag has magnatic closure and a zipper compartment inside, and it comes in beige and orange canvas. I personally think that the bag is cute to use for travelling and for the beach.
"Ceci est un IT Bag" is now available at Longchamp boutique at The Avenues Phase II. Price tag? KD 95 for the medium sized bag and KD 90 for the large size. Yes, the larger bag is cheaper for some reason.
Webby Wednesday: Judee La La
Judee La La is a newly launched Kuwaiti online children's boutique that specializes in girls clothing and accessories. According to the owner: "Everything is special, whimsical, and truly adorable. Perfect for buying a gift to baby girls from the comfort of your couch.

I stopped and stared in awe at these unbelievably gorgeous heels with cascading ruffles by Christian Louboutin for Philip Lim sitting beautifully at Al Othman's shoe shelves. Do I really need to further elaborate?! All I can say that there is actually a happily ever after kind of heels.

Zip It
- it's something not to be missed
- Would still be on-trend for the next season... HOPEFULLY!
- And I really really reeeeallyy need it
These conditions all apply to this the-Sartorialist-worthy long sleeve jacket with multi zipper details from Malene Birger. I'm in love with the huge asymmetrical ruffle on one side. It gives the jacket a sweet rock chic character. The jacket would look fab with the tightest skinny jeans or leather leggings, a tank top, studded stilettos, skull-motif ring, and winged-out eyeliner. Price tag? KD 128.

Malene Birger boutique is located at Marina Mall opposite to Oysho and next to Pull & Bear.

Sergio's Sole
As if these weren't enough to be getting excited about, I stumbled upon these eye-popping heels at Sergio Rossi's boutique at Salhiya Complex. And I'm in love with the sole even more! Crazy colors combinations are still pretty much the trend du jour in footwear. It will surely add a jolt of color to any outfit without being OTT.

Barbie Love
Hotel Chocolat created a limited edition box set: The Barbie Box to mark her 50th anniversary and 50 years of 'unapologetic glam' of a style-superstar-extraordinaire. The Love Barbie Box of chocolates is beautifully packaged in a small pink box that has a set of 8 micro-slabs in four naturally colored smooth yummy chocolate flavors: Hazelnut, Milk Chocolate, Strawberry, and Vanilla. Yummmmy! Thaaanks love!
Reiss's Pieces
Reiss is one of those contemporary stores that bridge the gap between very high street retailers and designer brands in terms of quality and price. You'll always find stylish and well cut pieces which will stand the test of time (ok.. at least 2-4 seasons!!). And by the way, I noticed lately that I've been eyeing accessories more than clothes! Maybe I'm being too picky with clothes this season? Anyhow.. I liked the evening satin clutches with ruched detailing and this very Ava Gardner-ish 40's style ankle strap black heels with a huge bow-like details on the side.Wednesday, May 6, 2009

Retro Style
Wouldn’t it be fun if there was a piece of jewelry that would allow you to carry around pictures of your family members, friends, and children? Well, now you can have charm bracelets with you favorite photos by placing your order at Retro Beauty Salon. Memory Bracelets come in different styles like the ones featured here, rose Gold with 5 personal close-up photo or a personal close-up photo memory bracelet a la Cartier style.
And if you've ever been to Henry Bendel in New York and fell in love with their hair accessories, then you would be thrilled to know that Retro Beauty Salon has received new collection of Jennifer Ouellette Headbands (made famous by stylish Miss Blaire of Gossip Girl). I actually like this vintage eaves on veiling headpiece.

Cardamom And Lime
Sarah al-Hamad is a food writer who divides her time between London and Kuwait. Passionate about the food and cooking traditions of the region, she wrote a book titled: Cardamom and Lime: Recipes from the Arabian Gulf, which features traditional dishes from the Gulf. The book is beautifully photographed and very easy to follow.
I strongly recommend buying this book. You can use it as a coffee table book, a house warming gift for your Kuwaiti friend who doesn't know how to cook (or needs her cook to learn Kuwaiti cuisine), or a gift to your western friends.
Kudos to Sarah, I'm very proud of you and I wish you the best of luck. Hope to see more books by you in the future.
Bye Kitty
If you're still not over the Hello Kitty trend that's been going around lately, then head to Oysho, you will find casual outerwear, pajamas, hair clips, lingerie, clothes to wear around the house, and a variety of fun accessories with your favorite cute cat. I used to be a Hello Kitty collector back in the day (waaay back in the day), so these things would have had more appeal to me back then... It was nice to see them and take a walk down memory lane.
Oysho offers the cutest in women's lingerie, undergarments, and lounging at home casual wear. It is located at Marina Mall in Salmiya and The Avenues phase I. Event: Curve 8900 Exhibition

Burberry To Dress British Supermodels at the Met
Burberry will be dressing Agyness Deyn and Twiggy at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Benefit Gala in New York on Monday 4 May. They will both be wearing custom made one-off pieces. The Gala will be celebrating the opening of The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion exhibition, which explores 50 years of iconic fashions throughout the women whose faces, figures and attitudes shaped and personified them.
Twiggy and Agyness Deyn are two of the most iconic British supermodels who have shaped the look of fashion over the last 50 years and represent the faces of past and current British fashion.
I'm so excited about this event! Seeing all those beautiful people dressed to the nines gives me an adrenaline rush. Of course, I'll share with you my fave looks after the event and don't forget to tell me your favorites.
Event: Exporting Pop: A Western Fantasy
The Al Sabah Art and Design Gallery is open from 10:00 am-10:00 pm from Saturday to Thursday. Admission is free for public.
The Show Steppers
Nothing makes an outfit like a pair of statement platform heels with the most exquisite details and plenty of adornment. My first and fave pick are these Nicholas Kirkwood black patent platforms with pearls around the sole and a white and black lace detail over the toes.
Or how about taking your heels to new style heights with a pair of sassy YSL's patent platform heels with straps in an interesting combination of black, pink, and gold. Shoes are available at Villa Moda located in Shuwaikh Free Trade Zone.

Color Me Mizrahi

Isaac Mizrahi’s colorful collection for Liz Claiborne hit Kuwait bringing a new collection of smart and snappy clothes for sophisticated women. The collection is very suitable for office wear and it’s more on the grown-up side. And if you purchase from the collection you get a free limited edition scarf by Mr. Mizrahi. But honestly, I wasn’t too impressed with the "limited" collection (plus I’m not a fan of Mizrahi); the lookbook was much more interesting than what was actually in-store. The only piece I liked was this bright yellow trench coat.
Liz Claiborne is located at Marina Mall, Salmiya.
Event: Design For Youth
The open day is the first of its kind, showcasing young designers, artists, photographers, musicians and entrepreneurs in Kuwait . "Design For Youth" will host a full day of remarkable exhibition of art, photography, design and talents that is sure to inspire and impress as well as activities and entertainment for families in addition to the access to Movenpick’s exclusive beach and pool area."Design For Youth" is held to build support for Kuwait ’s young inspiring designers and performers by providing them with a public platform to showcase their work as well as the establishment of the LoYAC Academy for Performing Arts (LAPA), Kuwait ’s first performing arts academy.
