The Thrill Of Bargain Hunting - Part 4 - Wonderful Westwood

I instantly fell in love with this shrunken and tucked-at-odd-angles metallic jacket with exaggerated shoulders by Vivienne Westwood from her RTW Spring 2007 collection. I feel it's one of those statement pieces you'll use for years to come. The photo here really doesn’t quite do it justice. And I only found the below picture on style.com but it's a longer version of the jacket with some slight differences.

You can team the metallic jacket with fitted plain dress and studded booties. Or you can simply wear it with a fitted tank top, loose men's like pants, and metallic platforms or oxfords. The jacket was priced at KD 1,061 and now it retails at KD 424.

The Thrill Of Bargain Hunting - Part 3 - The Cult of Marni

This colorful print dress is perfect for the loyal followers of Marni. After keeping an eye on Marni designs the past couple of years, I didn't find Marni's silouehhttes very amusing this year. However, this interesting print caught my attention. I loved the mixture swirly dark colors on white background. Pair it with patent boots and a heavy knit cardigan for day, then simply with shoe boots and a statement piece of jewelry for a formal look. Price after discount? Around KD 130.

For those who are clueless about the location of the store, here's a map of Villa Moda Mubarikiya's store. It was taken from their official facebook group.

Event: RullArt Gurgai'aan Exhibition

RullArt welcomes you as they do every year to their 2008 Gurgai'aan showroom starting 3rd August from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. They are located at Dahiya, block 1, Nusif Al-Yousef Street, avenue 18, house 19.

The Thrill Of Bargain Hunting - Part 2 - Fabulously Fun Feathers

I'm not a huge fan of feathers because I feel it makes me look a bit costume-ish. But this cute Marni evening clutch/mini bag, adorned with feathers in a very settled and classy way, completely changed my view. Its chic design instantly added a twist to my look. Besides, for Fall 2008, designers embellished their clothes and accessories with attention-grabbing feathers, which makes the mini bag even more alluring to buy. The bag is retailed at KD 137 after discount.

The Thrill Of Bargain Hunting - Part I - Cocktail Hour with YSL

The first item that caught my eyes when I first started my bargain hunting journey at Villa Moda Mubarikiya was this cocktail dress encased with matt gold sequins from Yves Saint Laurent 's Fall 2006 Ready-to-Wear. The dress has a retro chic feel to it and major "standout" factor. I liked how the bow perfectly sits on the waist. And what makes it even more irresistible is the fact that It's YSL and hits two of this fall's trends at the same time: Sequins and bows.

The dress was originally priced at KD 3,524. Now it is marked down to KD 1,057. Definitely a vintage collector's item.

The Thrill Of Bargain Hunting

I love to mix old with new, high-street with designer brands. And since there isn't much to do here during the summer, I decided to go bargain hunting (my latest summer obsession) at Villa Moda Mubarikiya. I was astounded by the amount of gorgeous items one can get at amazingly low prices and use for seasons to come. The store has a huge selection from its designer collection marked up to 70% off, including pieces by YSL, Vivian Westwood, Bottega Veneta, Marni, Manolo Blahnik, Gucci.. and more!

In my upcoming posts, I'll be sharing with you some of my favorite finds, what to avoid, and what to look for. I know I shouldn't, but I'm already tempted to go bargain hunting there again soon for some more fab and unique pieces to add to my semi-vintage wardrobe collection.

Stride In Style

This week I'm obsessed with these stunning Givenchy heels. The neutral tones of the heels make them easy to pair with everything and anything. Plus they're one of those transitional items that you can buy and wear now and they would smoothly take you into Fall. The killer heels are modernized and roughened up with the cut-out details and thick leather texture. Perfect to wear with this season's sharp and constructed silhouettes. The heels are available online and are priced at around KD 272.

Pre-Fall Chanel Bags in-store Now

As much as I dread seeing Chanel bags being toted around K-town by every single female, (very) young and old, stylish and not so stylish. I have to admit I never get bored of admiring this brand, especially its flap bags with the classic quilting. They're such a seasonless luxury pieces and easy to wear with anything. I just wish Kuwait's Chanel boutique offers a wider variety and stop this unfriendly policy of hiding new bags and making everything seems like impossible to get.

Anyhow, Kuwait's Chanel boutique has received its pre-fall collection of bags, accessories, and clothes. Don't expect a big selection though. Pictured here are two of the bags that are available in-store now. The first picture comes in black and a bigger size than the one shown. It's a Diamond quilted calfskin tote bag around KD 950. The second picture is of the classic flap Bag in quilted lamb skin around KD 850. It comes in dark brown as well.

Chanel Boutique is located at Salhiya Complex, Kuwait City.

When I found out from one of my lovely readers that my blog got featured in Thouq magazine, I was truly astounded and had to write a small post about it. Win Tickets to Vivienne Westwood's London Fashion Week Show

GAAAASP!!

No, your eyes are not deceiving you. Yes, this is actually the latest marketing campaign run by a Kuwaiti Retail Bank. I saw this ad by Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait in Al Qabas newspaper today. ABK is offering one reader and a friend the chance to attend Vivienne Westwood's London Fashion Week show (arghhhhh!). The lucky winner will also get to stay at Claridges Hotel, a five star, deluxe, luxury hotel located in Mayfair (sigh...). All you need to do is open a current or savings account (minimum KD 100). The draw will be held on 28th August 2008.

It's about time! An age-old financial local company finally experiencing an out-of-the-box forward thinking. Whoever's in charge of this product actually knows how to target clients in a very "creative-to-this-market" manner. We're sick of multiple car/electronics/tickets draws. And even though I don't deal with ABK, I'm seriously tempted to open an account with them after seeing this ad.

A big round of applause to ABK for the original idea. And hope to see more from other retail companies.

Strike A Pose

I have received an e-mail from one stylish reader and she inspired me to write this post. She has sent me some photos of fabulous accessories like Mcqueen's jeweled head pieces and Marni's bulky bracelet but what caught my eyes was LV's strong statement necklace (shown in the picture below). It's one of those items that you can wear any season and it would instantly update your look, without the need for a new wardrobe.

Neckwear and supersized necklaces are one of Fall's key pieces which you will need to add to your shopping list. Here are some additional pictures of statement necklaces which I picked from Fall's runway.

If I could buy one thing from Net-A-Porter today...

It would be this gorgeous Opéra silk crepe dress by RM by Ronald Mouret. This is what I would call the new and simple power dressing with its constructed pleating and shaped drapes. I would add a bulky studded cuff and a patent shoe-boot to give the look a strong statement. And maybe colored opaque tights when it's chilly outside. Me like. Price tag? Around KD 776.

My Dreams Went Cabat

When its a dead season in Kuwait, I sometimes crave for a fast new-season fix to add to my wardrobe. It doesn't always turn out to be a wise buy, but that's what shopaholics do I guess.

Even though next season is not about the "it" bag anymore (so overrated!), I went for a quick shopping spree to Bottega Veneta's boutique at Villa Moda Shuwaikh. I love the feel and the quality of their hand woven bags. Mind you, sometimes their prices can take your breath (and account balance) away. But at least you know it's not a one-season-wonder and it has a longer shelf life than you might think.

Anyhow, my heart flipped twice when I first stepped in. First, for the fact that pre-fall items were already on display. And secondly when I saw the Cabat in medium size (brown). I just love the way it looks. Simple in design and easy to carry. I read somewhere that Bottega Veneta manufactures not more than 500 per season of the Cabat, which fashionistas fight to possess. A marketing gimmick? Probably. And a very convincing one too. The only Cabat drawback is that it's too exposed if you plan to use it while traveling. It's every pick-pocketor's dream come true. Price tag? Around KD 1,540.

And then anther dark red BV un-Cabat-ish bag caught my eyes. Very practical for day use and travelling. And what I liked about it the most is that it looks different. Let's face it, the Cabat is not a new bag. It's been there for quite some time. But this looks more young and fresh. The bag retails for KD 1,078.

What was your biggest "bag-purchase" mistake?

Webby Wednesday: GojiBoutique.com is Live & Kicking

GojiBoutique.com has officially opened it's online doors. So now you can shop online and experience the thrill of one of a kind and exclusive pieces. I first posted about GojiBoutique when they held their first exhibition at Dar Al-Funoon. I instantly fell in love with their evening wear collection, so original & simple in design AND very reasonable in price. So I was slightly disappointed when I didn't see an evening wear section on their online store. I hope they will include it in the near future as this would definitely make it a hit!

Other items that I liked...

This Beige rustic linen skirt. It would look so edgy chic paired with a navy blue silk round-neck loose sleeveless top tucked in, a long gold statement-making necklace, and a pair of shoe-boots.

This Katerina Psoma charm necklace. Perfect with summer dresses and v-neck tops. or paired with other chain necklaces.

Currently they are operating on cash on delivery basis and in Kuwait only. Soon they will be offering online payment for Kuwait and the Middle East.

Let's Go Shabby Chique

Not So Lucky to Some...

I was astonished to find out that the Issa Lucky dress was sold out (in both colors) on net-a-porter in less than 2 hours from it's release online! I know that the dress made a big hit due to many factors (SATC movie, celeb-worthiness, all-shapes-flattering-style to name a few), but I didn't expect it to fly off the virtual shelf that fast!

Whoever bought it, can you please let us know if it was worth it or not? And does it really flatter your shape?!

If I Was An Unconventional Bride-To-Be...

And 6 feet tall, I would defiantly pick this enormously billowing red Giambattista Valli evening gown for my "at-home-with-friends-and-family-wedding". I love the red blood shade of the gown and the embellished rosette details on the bodice that fall below the waistline in a scattered manner to add even more interest to the powerful skirt. This gown is for someone who wants to break typical wedding traditions. For someone who wants to make a big and beautiful statement. No veil required...

And then after dinner (oh! I would only eat one sushi roll to fit into my next dress), I would go for this short and much more practical dress, dance a little, and mingle with my guests. How cool and chic is that?

And that's a BIG IF.....

The featured gown and dress are from Giambattista Valli's Fall 2008 collection.

Coco Chanel Goes Mobile

First came D&G's Razr, then Armani, and now Coco Chanel is following the lead. In concept though. As I haven't heard this design went to production. And honestly speaking, I'm not sure if this is news to you, but I only heard about it recently and wanted to share it with you.

The phone does look very sleek and extremely sophisticated. I wonder, however, if it's user-friendly, and has all the latest technology in mobile phones? Highly unlikely..

Will it sell? Like hot cakes. The name of the brand alone will definitely make its mark in the world of fashion. However, Nokia and Sony, need not to worry as this will probably be a phase which die-hard bling-bling loving fashionistas will go through for a couple of months before they get back to their good ol' friendly mobile phones.
